Leavers Lace : Series Concept

Delicate river lace that is loved like a masterpiece

The fabric used in this series is "river lace," which is made by twisting thin yarn together on a river knitting machine. The machine was named after the Englishman John Rivers who invented it in 1813. River lace, the king of delicate and intricate lace, is made using over 20,000 threads, each of which is twisted together to create any pattern. It takes a very long time to complete and requires skilled techniques, so it is a lace that is difficult to produce nowadays. Although they are expensive, their beauty has been passed down for over 200 years and is still talked about today.

Parasol Enjoy the natural feel of a parasol

In order for you to enjoy the texture of the fabric, no processing has been done. Use it as a parasol to protect yourself from the sun, or as a fashion accessory.

About the fabric

Delicate river lace that is loved like a masterpiece

We use elegant and gorgeous "river lace," which is made by twisting thin threads together on a river lace machin.
The machine was named after the Englishman John Rivers who invented it.
River lace, the king of delicate and intricate lace, is made using more than 20,000 threads.
By twisting the threads one by one, patterns are freely created.
It takes a long time to complete and requires skilled techniques, making it difficult to produce today. Therefore, it is expensive, but its beauty transcends time and continues to captivate people's hearts even today.

Enjoy combining two pieces together with "double layering"

This is a "double-layered" umbrella, where the edges of the lining umbrella cover are cut and re-sewn with a sewing machine, then adjusted to create a deep curve, and then sewn together with the outer fabric.
By taking the extra step of creating the curves, you can even enjoy the texture and transparency of the two overlapping layers of fabric.

  • Rokuro winding and dowel winding

The part that moves up and down when opening and closing the umbrella is called the "rokuro" and the joint part of the bone is called the "dabo."
The process of protecting each of these parts with the umbrella fabric is called "rokuromaki" and "dabomaki," and each part is carefully attached and covered to protect your hands when opening the umbrella and to prevent damage to the ribs, while also creating a traditional beauty and sense of luxury.
This is an old-fashioned technique that is time-consuming and therefore not seen much these days, but all of Komiya Shoten's long umbrellas are equipped with it.

  • Ribs and Shaft

The ribs are made of lightweight and durable fiberglass material. It has a moderate thickness and flexibility, so it is lightweight but strong against wind. It is also a rust-free material, so it is easy to maintain on a daily basis.
The center pole is made of domestic oak.
Oak is characterized by its hardness and durability, and beautiful grain, which makes it suitable for use in building wooden ships.

Piano wire is used for the trigger.
It is a traditional material that is smooth to the touch and gentle on your fingers.

The ferrule is made from buffalo horn.
The unique texture and luster of natural materials create a luxurious feel.
